Commissions are scary, because we assume the client has a preconceived notion of what they want. It also is a lot of responsibility, because they asked you to create something for them rather than just select something out of your shop. The latter gives you a happy feeling, because they connected with something you already made with no one else's involvement, but your own thoughts.
The arrival of migrating coots brings flotillas of thousands that drift on the lake separately and then combine in the numerous bays into one like starlings in a murmuration. They don't move as quickly and actually are weak fliers with short rounded wings, but peacefully drift into tight groups and apart to their own rhythm. It's a sure sign that Fall has arrived in northern Idaho.(According to my husband I'm a rare bird in that I love seeing the coots. Apparently they're not thought fondly of by many?)
I've got two commissions to complete in the next week! Yikes! I've made some progress with the first one that a sweet friend of mine commissioned back in early July! She made the mistake of telling me to take my time, so I did. : ) I used that time to waver between traditional goldsmithing and working with metal clay. As you can see I decided to go with the metal clay. I have another commission to do that I could only do with metal clay or casting, but the latter I haven't added to my repertoire yet.
