Shorts and Salad and now Me in Capri

April 12, 2011

Our second stop in Italy on this cruise was the port of Sorrento.  We hopped on a hydrofoil and decided to take a day trip to Capri since none of us had been there.  This was another stop I had really been looking forward to, because I'd fallen in love with the images in the film The Talented Mr. Ripley. Here's one place that lived up to my expectations!

The first thing we did was head up to Anacapri, the upper town where my husband and friends took the chair lift up Monte Solaro while I visited the famous Villa San Michele since I'm really bad with heights.  I gave my husband the camera since we figured he'd have some amazing vistas.  I regretted not having the camera for my visit to the gorgeous Villa and gardens until I processed the photos.  Needless to say I'm still happy I didn't take the chairlift.   We couldn't have even held hands!

But the vistas they saw...!

After meeting up again we headed down to the town of Capri for lunch.  Being in southern Italy we had to have pizza again and when my husband saw mussels on the list he looked no further.  He's actually being pretty patient while I take this photo, but look at that fist!

Ristorante Da Georgio

I really loved this place.  Although I'm not a Gucci kind of girl, it was fun to peak in the shops and watch the people in the streets.  It was very late in the season when we were there, but I imagine it's really hopping in the summer.

I loved the feel of the ocean breezes, the interesting and colorful architecture and ancient walled streets, the lush gardens, and the craggy cliffs against the blue sky and ocean.

Oh, and to be honest, the gelato and the lemon ices...  Did I have to choose between them?  Naw, not with my dear hubby...

If we do ever go back to stay I'd hope for a room at Hotel Luna.  We took a wrong turn while exploring and ended up walking up and down curvy paths in a beautiful garden with views of the sea.  It turned out we were walking in the hotel guest only area, but other than letting us know we couldn't go through the back door of the hotel, we didn't get chased away.  It must've been because we didn't see a single guest!  When you consider how small an island it is, it's proximity to Italy and the rest of Europe, this is prime real estate!
